ADA Title II and digital accessibility Canvas course
Dear Colleagues,
The U.S. Department of Justice has recently issued rule changes concerning digital accessibility under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). These new regulations will go into effect for large public institutions, including UK, on April 24, 2026. These rule changes add new compliance requirements for a range of digital content, including academic course content and materials.
Ensuring digital accessibility across the university is a shared responsibility. To support your efforts in making course content accessible, you have been added to a Canvas course — named “Updating Course Content for Accessibility” — containing resources to help faculty and staff update their academic course content and meet new requirements set forth in Title II of the ADA.
This Canvas resource, designed and maintained by the Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT), includes information about accessibility improvements and how to implement them in different software or platforms including Canvas, office productivity software and video hosting platforms.
We invite you to explore the resource and reach out to CELT for further questions, unique considerations and troubleshooting. Please ensure your courses and course content are compliant on or before April 24, 2026.
Thank you for all that you do in support of our students and our educational mission.
